Pearl Harbor Remembered

(St. Francois County, MO) World War II Veterans across the nation, and Americans who were alive at the time, still carry the fear, and sometimes scars, from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that took place December 7th, 1941. KFMO B104 News contacted a local historian, Jon Cozean, and talked with him about that fateful day. Cozean says even though most Japanese were celebrating our defeat after the sneak attack, the man who helped plan it, Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, did not. In fact, Cozean says, he was afraid they had done something that would come back to seriously harm Japan.

Yamamoto was a Japanese Marshal Admiral of the Navy and the commander in chief of the Combined Fleet during World War II until his death. In the attack Japanese military men destroyed 8 U.S. battleships, 7 other key vessels, and 188 planes.  3,435 American servicemen were either killed or wounded.
