Five GOP Senators Join Democrats on War Powers Resolution

Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - Five Republicans in the Senate joined all Democrats for a resolution that would prevent President Trump from taking further military action in Venezuela without some kind of a approval by Congress.

Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley, was one of the GOP members who voted yes.

The bill is related to The War Powers Act, a 1970s, post-Vietnam war bill that was designed to rein-in a president's power to wage war. President Trump denounced the vote and it's unclear if the House would go along with the attempt.

President Trump slammed the bill and said the Republicans who voted for it should never be elected to office again.
