Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - There is growing evidence the flu season may be starting to wind down, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC has recorded two consecutive weeks of declining flu activity nationwide. Health officials point to a significant drop in flu-related hospitalizations, along with fewer visits to doctors’ offices for flu symptoms. The number of states reporting high levels of flu activity has also decreased, falling from 44 states to 36 in the latest report. Overall, health officials are describing the current respiratory virus season as moderate. That assessment includes not only influenza, but also COVID-19 and RSV.
Despite the recent decline, the flu has still had a major impact this season, with at least 18 million illnesses reported nationwide. Health experts continue to encourage preventive measures, including vaccination and good hygiene, to reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses.
