Flu Cases Surge to Highest Levels in Nearly 30 Years, CDC Reports

Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - This year’s flu season is reaching alarming levels. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, visits to doctors for flu-related illnesses have climbed to the highest point in nearly three decades.

So far, there have been at least 11 million cases nationwide, with 45 states reporting “high or very high” flu activity. Pediatrician Dr. Jennifer Shu advises parents to closely monitor their children if they show flu symptoms, paying special attention to breathing, which can indicate whether emergency care is needed.

Health officials also stress the importance of vaccination. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends all children six months and older receive a flu shot to help prevent severe illness.
