Gas Prices Continue to Rise Nationwide, in Missouri and Across the Parkland

Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - Gas prices are on the rise once again and drivers across the Parkland are feeling the impact as costs climb heading into the summer travel season.

According to the latest data from the American Automobile Association, gas prices have continued their upward trend at the national, state, and local levels.

As of May 6, 2026, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline stands at $4.54 per gallon. In Missouri, the statewide average is lower but still increasing, now sitting at $4.12 per gallon.

Locally, drivers in St. Francois County are seeing prices generally ranging between $4.15 and $4.36 per gallon, placing the area slightly above some parts of the state.

AAA officials say the increase is being driven by a combination of factors, including rising crude oil prices, increased seasonal demand, and the transition to summer fuel blends, which are more expensive to produce.

The recent spike continues a steady upward trend seen over the past several weeks, with prices jumping significantly since early spring. Just one week earlier, Missouri’s average was under $4.00 per gallon, highlighting how quickly costs are rising.

Despite Missouri remaining below the national average, local drivers are still experiencing noticeable increases at the pump. AAA encourages motorists to conserve fuel where possible by combining trips, avoiding aggressive driving, and maintaining proper tire pressure.

With peak travel season approaching, experts warn gas prices could continue to fluctuate, and potentially rise further, in the weeks ahead.
