Gas Prices Jump 14 Percent as Conflict with Iran Drives Energy Concerns

Pennsylvania (KFMO) - Drivers across the country are seeing higher prices at the gas pump as geopolitical tensions continue to impact global energy markets.

According to AAA, gasoline prices have jumped about 14 percent over the past week, fueled by concerns about global oil supplies as the war involving Iran enters its second week.

Energy analysts say uncertainty surrounding oil shipments and potential disruptions in key shipping routes have pushed crude oil prices higher, which quickly affects gasoline prices for consumers. Global markets are closely watching the situation as fears of a broader energy crisis grow.

John Quigley, a senior fellow at the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, says prices are likely to continue climbing if the conflict persists and supply concerns worsen.

Drivers are already feeling the impact nationwide, with the national average climbing sharply over the past week. In Missouri, the average price for regular gasoline is currently about $2.97 per gallon, which is about 31 cents higher than a week ago, according to fuel price data.

Experts say gasoline prices often react quickly to global events involving oil-producing regions. If tensions continue or oil shipments are disrupted further, analysts warn prices could rise even more in the coming weeks.
