Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - The federal government shutdown is now underway, and Missourians could feel the effects quickly.
About 37,000 federal workers in the state face furloughs or delayed paychecks. SNAP food benefits should be safe for October, but WIC funding for mothers and children could run out within days if the shutdown continues.
Travelers may see longer waits at airports as TSA and FAA staff are stretched thin, and some federal farm programs could be put on hold, leaving Missouri producers in limbo.
Essential services like Social Security, Medicare, and veterans’ health care will continue, but the longer the shutdown lasts, the more strain it’s expected to put on families, farmers, and local businesses across Missouri.
