Seasonal Illnesses Rising; Doctors Urge Testing, Vaccination

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - As temperatures shift across the region, health experts say it’s important not to dismiss sniffles, coughs, or fatigue as “just allergies.” Medical professionals are reporting an uptick in viral infections, including flu, COVID-19, and RSV, all of which commonly surge this time of year.

Dr. Céline Gounder says the only reliable way to know what’s making you sick is to seek an evaluation from a medical professional.

Doctors also remind patients that if they test positive for the flu, COVID-19, or RSV, they should stay home until their symptoms improve and they are no longer contagious. Gounder says cases are rising in many communities.

She also stresses that it’s not too late to get vaccinated. While vaccines do not prevent every infection, they significantly reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
