Thanksgiving Travel Off to a Smooth Start Following End of Government Shutdown

Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - With the federal government shutdown now over, Thanksgiving travel began ramping up Friday, and officials say the national air traffic system is performing well so far.

AAA National Spokesperson Aixa Diaz says November bookings slowed while the government was closed, but travel demand is now bouncing back.

On the road, there’s more good news for holiday travelers: gas prices are hovering around $3 per gallon on average nationwide. AAA expects more than 73 million Americans to drive at least 50 miles to their turkey dinners this year.
