Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month Highlights Impact of Disease Ahead of Local Walk

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - June is recognized nationwide as Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing understanding of Alzheimer's disease and supporting individuals and families affected by the condition.

Maddie Irwin, Walk to End Alzheimer's Manager for Southeast Missouri, says Alzheimer's affects all families in some way, whether through a loved one, friend, caregiver, or community member. She says awareness efforts help educate the public about the disease while providing support for those currently facing its challenges.

The observance also serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing research and community involvement in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.

Residents will have an opportunity to support the cause later this year during the Southeast Missouri Walk to End Alzheimer's. The event is scheduled for September 26, 2026, at Mineral Area College and will bring together participants from across the region to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support programs, and research initiatives.

Organizers encourage community members, businesses, and families to get involved by forming teams, volunteering, or making donations to support the ongoing effort to end Alzheimer's disease.
