St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) - Ameren Missouri is urging customers to take steps now to prepare for severe weather and possible power outages as storm season continues throughout Missouri.
The utility company says having an emergency plan and supply kit ready before storms arrive can help families stay safe during outages and severe conditions. Ameren recommends keeping flashlights, batteries, bottled water, medications, blankets, radios, and non-perishable food on hand in case electricity is interrupted.
Ameren officials also encourage residents to closely monitor weather forecasts and warnings during severe weather events. The company says people should move indoors immediately if thunderstorms develop and remember the National Weather Service warning that if thunder can be heard, lightning is close enough to strike.
Customers are reminded to stay far away from downed power lines and report them immediately. Ameren also warns residents never to operate portable generators indoors or near windows, doors, or vents because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The company says customers can use Ameren’s outage center to report outages, check restoration updates, and sign up for outage alerts during severe weather events.
