Audit Finds Missouri State Highway Patrol Compliant with Highway Fund Rules

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol is complying with legal requirements governing the use of highway funds, according to an audit report released Thursday by State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick.

The audit, which is required by state law, reviewed the Highway Patrol’s management of appropriations from the State Highways and Transportation Department Fund. That fund is constitutionally restricted to activities related to administering and enforcing state motor vehicle laws and traffic regulations.

According to the report, the Missouri State Highway Patrol spent approximately $297.1 million from the fund during fiscal year 2025, which ended June 30, 2025. The audit found the expenditures were consistent with the purposes allowed under the Missouri Constitution.

State Auditor Fitzpatrick’s report concludes the Highway Patrol’s use of the fund aligns with state law and constitutional provisions governing highway-related spending.
