Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - As the threat for winter weather continues to increase across the Parkland area this weekend, local authorities are urging drivers to use extra caution on the roads.
St. Francois County Sheriff Jeff Crites says being prepared before traveling is key as conditions can change quickly during winter weather events.
Sheriff Crites reminds drivers to slow down, allow extra time to reach their destinations, and make sure they have a cell phone and phone charger in case of an emergency. Crites also encourages motorists to think carefully before heading out.
If travel is not necessary during periods of wintry weather, he says the safest option is to stay where you are and avoid the roads altogether.
Crites says that St. Francois County Emergency Management continues to monitor the weather closely and urge residents to stay tuned to local media and official alerts for the latest updates throughout the weekend.
