Bismarck, Mo. (KFMO) - The Bismarck Fire Protection District is inviting area teenagers to apply for its youth Cadet Program, a hands-on opportunity for young people interested in learning about the fire service and building leadership skills. The program is open to individuals ages 14-18 and is designed to give participants valuable experiences that develop confidence, teamwork, citizenship, and both physical and mental fitness.
Cadets will take part in training that includes basic structural and wildland firefighting operations, first aid and CPR instruction, supervised ride-alongs as observers, emergency scene support, and community outreach activities. Along with these practical skills, cadets also learn core values such as loyalty, professionalism, respect, and integrity, all important foundations for a future in emergency services.
The Cadet Program aims to help participants experience a firefighter’s daily life, explore firefighting and emergency medical services as a career path, and prepare for potential future roles as career firefighters or EMTs. To qualify, applicants must be between 14 and 18 years old, maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, have a sports physical from the past two years, and demonstrate a team-oriented attitude.
Teens interested in joining can complete the application online through the Bismarck Fire Protection District’s signup form here.
