Bismarck, Mo. (KFMO) - A Bismarck man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop and leading police on a pursuit Thursday morning.
According to the Bismarck Police Department, an officer was operating stationary radar in the 500 block of Cedar Street on August 13 at approximately 11:50 a.m. when the officer observed a vehicle traveling 66 miles per hour in a posted 30-mile-per-hour zone.
The officer immediately activated emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Police say the driver failed to stop and fled, resulting in a pursuit.
The officer continued following the vehicle south on State Highway N. However, police say the pursuit was terminated north of State Highway NN because of unsafe traffic conditions and a construction zone.
Following the termination of the pursuit, the officer began an investigation to identify the driver. Police say the officer used the Flock Safety automated license plate reader system to help identify the vehicle involved.
Several hours later, a St. Francois County Sheriff's Deputy located the vehicle and driver in Bonne Terre. The deputy took the driver into custody, and a Bismarck police officer responded to the scene and transported the suspect to the St. Francois County Jail.
Police identified the suspect as Hayden Henson. Henson was initially placed on a 24-hour hold while the case was submitted to the St. Francois County Prosecutor's Office.
A warrant was subsequently issued charging Henson with aggravated fleeing a stop, a felony under Valentine's Law, and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, a misdemeanor.
Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
