Iron Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Bureau of Land Management has approved 36 lease renewals for five active mines in southeastern Missouri’s Mark Twain National Forest, operated by Doe Run Resources Corporation.
The mines produce lead, zinc, and copper for products such as car batteries, electrical wiring, and galvanized steel. The renewals will keep operations running for the next decade, generating millions in federal revenue through royalties and fees, with 25% of royalties returned to Missouri. BLM Northeastern States District Manager Pamela Mathis said the decision supports domestic mineral supply, jobs, and local economies.
Doe Run has mined in the region for over 50 years, and the leases were last renewed in 2015.
