Bonne Terre Gets $550,000 in Grants

(Bonne Terre, MO.) Bonne Terre officials are looking forward to getting started on replacing a bridge, several drainage structures, and begin a facility plan report for the city's wastewater system. A $500,000 Community Development Black Grant from The Missouri Department of Economic Development and a $50,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources were announced at Monday night's city council meeting. Bonne Terre City Administrator, Shawn Kay, says these are matching grants and until the citizens passed a property tax last year the city could not afford to meet the required match in funding.

The bridge being replaced is near the old Depot building on Oak street near the soccer fields. There are two drainage structures to be replaced on Allen street and one on Buchannan. Kay says all projects will be started almost immediately. In other business at the meeting council members passed a zoning ordinance to guide city officials in how they handle the marijuana business that should be coming to Bonne Terre and other communities in the Parkland.
