Central Avenue to Close for I-55 Bridge Demolition This Weekend

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Crews will close Central Avenue under Interstate 55 from 7 p.m. Friday, October 17, through 5 a.m. Monday, October 20, as work continues on the bridge replacement project.

The closure will allow for demolition of the old northbound I-55 bridge over Central Avenue. Traffic on northbound I-55 has already been shifted onto the new bridge, enabling crews to safely remove the old structure. All lanes of I-55 will remain open throughout the work. Detours will be clearly marked for motorists using Central Avenue. Officials note that all work is weather permitting.

This demolition follows earlier work this month on two other northbound I-55 bridges, one over U.S. 67 and another over North 3rd Street,  as part of a broader effort to replace aging bridge structures along the corridor.
