Madison Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Firefighters with the Cherokee Pass Fire Protection District spent the weekend sharpening critical lifesaving skills during Ice Rescue Training, taking advantage of cold conditions to practice a high-risk rescue scenario.
Cherokee Pass crews partnered with the Fredericktown Fire Department and the Farmington Fire Department for the joint exercise, which focused on responding to emergencies involving victims who fall through ice. Ice rescues are considered low-frequency but high-risk incidents, making hands-on training essential. Officials say the multi-agency training strengthened technical rescue skills while also improving coordination and communication between departments. That collaboration helps ensure a faster, more effective response when emergencies occur.
Fire district leaders say continued joint training efforts like this one help keep firefighters prepared and ready to serve the community when they are needed most.
