Cold Weather Continues Across the Parkland

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Cold weather continues to grip the Parkland, with below-normal temperatures and dangerous wind chills expected through the weekend before a gradual warm-up early next week.

High temperatures through Saturday will remain in the lower 20s. A slight bump in temperatures is expected on Sunday, with highs climbing into the lower 30s. By Monday, daytime highs are forecast to reach around 40 degrees. Overnight lows will be especially cold. Temperatures Friday night are expected to dip into the lower single digits, with lows around zero Saturday night. Sunday night will be milder, with lows near 20 degrees.

Wind chill values remain the primary concern. Wind chills Friday night into Saturday morning are expected to fall between -5 and -10 degrees. There will be little relief during the day on Saturday, as wind chill values are forecast to remain in the single digits. Sunday morning will also start off cold, with wind chills in the single digits before rising into the low 20s by midday.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions during the cold stretch. Limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and make sure exposed skin is covered to reduce the risk of frostbite. Check on elderly neighbors and make sure pets have warm shelter. Space heaters should be used with caution, and generators or grills should never be used indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Drivers are also reminded to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles in case of breakdowns during the cold weather.
