Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Paving work is scheduled to begin this week on Columbia Street in downtown Farmington following the completion of milling operations by the Farmington Street Department.
Leadbelt Materials, the contractor awarded the paving project earlier this year, will begin work at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1. The project includes Columbia Street from A Street to Main Street.
City officials say traffic and parking will be affected while crews are working. One lane of Columbia Street is expected to remain open during most of the paving operation to allow traffic to continue moving through the downtown area.
The Street Department will post "No Parking" signs throughout the work zone, and motorists are asked not to park in those designated areas. Drivers are also encouraged to use caution, watch for construction workers and obey all traffic control signage while traveling downtown.
Parking spaces, crosswalk markings and pavement striping will be completed at a later date after the paving work is finished.
Once Columbia Street is complete, paving will continue on other streets throughout the city that have already been milled as part of this year's street improvement program.
Anyone with questions about the project can contact the Farmington Development Services Department at 573-756-0608.
