St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Controversy surrounding intermittent closures at the St. Francois County Transfer Station was addressed during Tuesday’s St. Francois County Commission meeting.
In recent weeks, residents have voiced concerns after the transfer station experienced unexpected, temporary shutdowns. Presiding Commissioner Harold Gallaher and District 1 Commissioner Kerry Buckley, who both serve on the St. Francois County Environmental Board, acknowledged the issue during the meeting. Buckley explained the closures were not due to problems at the transfer station itself, but instead stemmed from issues with the company responsible for hauling trash from the site to Richwoods.
According to Buckley, efforts are now underway to secure another company to handle hauling services in order to prevent further disruptions. Both Buckley and Gallaher emphasized the importance of keeping the transfer station operational.
They noted that if the facility were to completely shut down, garbage collection costs for county residents would likely increase significantly, something the Environmental Board is working to avoid. County officials say they are continuing to monitor the situation and are focused on maintaining reliable service for residents.
