Bonne Terre, Mo. (KFMO) - Tuesday marks four years since Bonne Terre Police Officer Lane Burns lost his life in the line of duty while serving the community.
Officer Burns was shot and killed on March 17, 2022, after responding to a disturbance call at the Motel 6 in Bonne Terre. Authorities say the situation quickly turned violent, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
During the incident, Officer Garrett Worley was critically injured and required emergency medical treatment.
The suspect involved in the shooting, 21-year-old James J. Emery of St. Louis, was shot and killed at the scene.
Four years later, Officer Burns continues to be remembered by fellow officers, family members, and the Bonne Terre community. His sacrifice remains a solemn reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face while protecting the public.
Burns had served a decade in law enforcement, including five years with the Bonne Terre Police Department. He was 30 years old at the time of his death.
