Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Construction is underway at the St. Francois County Courthouse to add an additional courtroom on the third floor of the historic building.
District 1 Commissioner Kerry Buckley says the expansion is being done in response to a state requirement for an additional judge, making the added courtroom necessary to meet the county’s judicial needs.
Buckley adds that part of the project involved removing a concrete wall, a change that has actually improved the overall structure of the building rather than weakening it.
County officials say the new courtroom is expected to be completed within the next month, helping the courthouse better accommodate its growing caseload.
