Dangerous Cold Expected This Weekend Across the Parkland

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Very cold air is set to move into the region this weekend, bringing some of the lowest temperatures of the season and dangerously cold wind chills.

Forecasters say the coldest period will arrive late Saturday night into Sunday morning, when wind chill values are expected to drop quickly. According to the National Weather Service, “feels like” temperatures could fall to between -10 and -20 degrees along and north of Interstate 70, with actual air temperatures dipping as low as -5 degrees in some areas. Across the Parkland, wind chills of -5 to -10 degrees are expected during the coldest hours.

The dangerously cold wind chills will pose a threat to anyone spending time outdoors without proper winter clothing, and officials warn that frostbite can develop quickly under these conditions. Some slight improvement in temperatures is expected Sunday afternoon into Monday morning, with a more noticeable warm-up by Monday afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to limit time outside, check on vulnerable neighbors, and make sure pets have warm shelter as the bitter cold settles in.
