Desloge Chamber Luncheon Focuses on Helpful and Harmful Insects

Desloge, Mo. (KFMO) - Residents and community members learned more about insects and pest management during this week’s Desloge Chamber of Commerce Luncheon.

Kate Kammler, Horticulture Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension, spoke to attendees about the role insects play in the environment and why proper identification is important before treating or removing them.

Kammler explained that while many people think of insects as pests, only a small percentage actually cause problems for humans, plants, or crops.

She noted that mosquitoes and ticks are among the most concerning insects locally because of their ability to spread diseases to people. Kammler also discussed insects that can damage plants, gardens, and landscaping.

Kammler emphasized the importance of correctly identifying insects to determine whether they are beneficial or harmful before taking action.

Anyone seeking additional information or assistance can contact Kammler through the University of Missouri Extension at 573-883-3548.
