Desloge, Mo. (KFMO) - As communities across Missouri continue debating the benefits and concerns surrounding large-scale data centers, Desloge officials are taking the first steps toward educating residents and gathering public input.
The discussion comes after a proposed $6 billion data center development in Festus generated widespread public attention. The project drew hundreds of residents to public meetings and led to legal challenges, election shakeups, and continued debate over issues including transparency, infrastructure demands, water consumption, electrical usage, and economic development.
Desloge City Administrator Stephanie Daffron says members of the Board of Aldermen wanted to begin discussing what a similar proposal could mean for Desloge if one were ever presented.
Daffron says the conversation is intended to keep residents informed and involved from the beginning.
According to Daffron, the board has already received comments and questions from residents as well as board members. She says city officials plan to continue gathering public input before making any decisions.
The city also plans to hold public town hall meetings so residents can learn more about data centers, ask questions, and share their thoughts. Details on those meetings are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
