San Diego, Ca. (KFMO) - A Desloge native is continuing a family tradition of military service while serving aboard one of the U.S. Navy’s most powerful warships.
Seaman Apprentice David Glore, a 2023 graduate of Bismarck High School, is currently assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier homeported in San Diego, California. Glore serves as a quartermaster aboard the vessel after joining the Navy about a year ago.
According to Navy officials, aircraft carriers remain a key part of the nation’s military readiness because of their ability to quickly respond to global crises while operating in international waters. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is among the largest warships in the world, measuring more than 1,000 feet long and carrying more than 5,000 sailors.
Glore said lessons learned while growing up in Desloge helped prepare him for military life, including the importance of completing tasks correctly the first time and maintaining a strong work ethic.
Navy officials say Glore joined the service after being inspired by his father’s military background and a desire to gain responsibility and discipline. Since entering the Navy, Glore has completed boot camp and advanced training school while continuing his duties aboard the carrier.
The Navy is marking its role in the nation’s defense as the United States approaches 250 years of independence. Officials say sailors serving around the world continue helping maintain security, protect global commerce and support military operations.
Glore also expressed gratitude to his parents and military instructors for helping guide him toward a Navy career and said he hopes to become a positive role model for future sailors.
