DeSoto Child Injured in Accident

(St. Francois Co., MO) A child from DeSoto is recovering from moderate injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident Wednesday evening in St. Francois County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the accident took place shortly after 7:30. A tractor trailer, driven by 53 year old Robert P. Mahan, of Humansville, MO was traveling north on Highway 67 at Route Y, in the right lane, when a truck, driven by 42 year old William H. Murray, of DeSoto, attempted to make a right turn off of Highway Y onto Highway 67 into the path of Mahan. Mahan attempted to avoid collision with Murray, by steering to the left lane. The front bumper of the tractor trailer struck the left side of the truck. Mahan came to rest in the center median, while Murray was able to stop on the right shoulder.

An 11 year old female, who was a passenger in the tractor trailer was taken to Mercy Hospital Jefferson, by ambulance, for treatment of her injuries. Mahan was taken to Parkalnd Hospital, by ambulance, for treatment of minor injuries. Murray was not injured in the accident.

The tractor trailer received minor damage, however the truck received extensive damage.

The child was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, however Mahan was wearing his. Murray is listed as exempt.
