Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District is off to a busy start in 2026, with crews responding to three in-district working structure fires within the first five days of the new year.
The first incident occurred on January 2 in the 12800 block of Nickelson Road. Firefighters were dispatched for a report of smoke inside a mobile home. Upon arrival, crews observed light smoke showing and began an investigation. Fire personnel located a fire in the attic space, removed portions of the ceiling, and extinguished burning insulation to fully contain the blaze. No injuries were reported.
A second call came in on January 5 at the 12500 block of Canaan Drive, where crews were dispatched for a reported kitchen fire with a burn patient on scene. Firefighters arrived to find smoke showing from the residence and quickly deployed a handline for an offensive fire attack. The fire was extinguished and confined to the kitchen area. The Valle Ambulance District provided medical care on scene, and no serious injuries were reported.
Later that same day, crews were dispatched to the intersection of Bader Road and Black Berry Manor following multiple reports of a shed on fire with nearby brush involvement and exposure concerns. Firefighters pulled multiple handlines and were able to achieve a fast knockdown of the fire, successfully preventing a nearby building from igniting. No injuries were reported.
