Farmingon, Mo. (KFMO) - A large emergency response was called to a structure fire on O’Bannon Road, in Farmington, Sunday afternoon, where firefighters worked to bring a detached garage blaze under control.
Fire crews responded just before 5:30 p.m. to a first-alarm structure fire involving a detached garage. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a working fire in a 30-by-40-foot building with heavy flames visible.
An initial attack line was deployed, and crews began an aggressive fire attack. Command was established at the scene, and additional responding units assisted with fire suppression and search operations. The property owners reported that no one was inside the garage at the time of the fire.
Due to a large number of onlookers, the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department was called in to assist with traffic control at nearby intersections to allow emergency crews to operate safely.
The fire was successfully brought under control, though crews conducted extensive overhaul operations to ensure all hotspots were extinguished. Additional personnel assisted with suppression efforts and water supply, while ambulance crews were on standby for firefighter rehabilitation.
Investigators determined the fire likely originated on a workbench in an area where several batteries were located.
Crews remained on scene for approximately an hour and a half before clearing.
