Elevated Fire Danger Expected Across the Parkland Through Friday

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - An elevated fire danger is developing across the Parkland and is expected to persist through at least Friday.

Farmington Fire Chief Kyle Carter says these conditions are determined by several factors, including weather patterns, moisture levels, and wind.

Carter notes that even though the region saw snowfall and rain over the weekend, southeast Missouri continues to experience drought conditions that increase the risk of fires spreading quickly.

Residents are urged to take extra precautions during this period by properly disposing of cigarettes, avoiding the burning of trash or brush, fully extinguishing any smoldering piles, and promptly reporting any fires before they escalate. Carter also advises anyone considering burning to first contact the fire department to determine whether conditions are safe.

Those needing to burn can call 573-756-2324, option 1, to check if it is a good day to burn. City residents are also encouraged to leave a message notifying the department that they will be burning.
