Elevated Fire Danger Expected Across the Parkland Wednesday Afternoon

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Residents across the Parkland are being urged to use caution Wednesday afternoon as weather conditions are expected to create an elevated fire danger across the region.

According to forecasters, a combination of strong and gusty south winds along with low relative humidity will create an environment where fires could spread rapidly and become difficult to control.

Officials warn that any fire starts in dry grassy areas, open fields, or agricultural land with dry crop debris could lead to erratic fire behavior. Those conditions can cause flames to move unpredictably, especially when winds increase during the afternoon hours.

People are being advised to avoid outdoor burning and to be extremely careful with anything that could spark a fire, including open flames and discarded cigarettes.

Authorities say any burning should be left to trained professionals, as conditions Wednesday could allow even a small fire to quickly grow out of control.

With dry vegetation and windy conditions in place, residents are encouraged to stay alert and take extra precautions throughout the afternoon.
