Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Extreme cold weather settled in across the Parkland over the weekend, bringing dangerous wind chills and frigid temperatures to start the week.
Wind chills dipped below zero Sunday night as brisk winds combined with cold air moving into the region. High temperatures on Monday are expected to reach only the lower 20s, with wind chills remaining in the single digits for much of the day.
Winds will gradually decrease, and while overnight lows Monday night are forecast to fall to around 10 degrees, it is not expected to feel significantly colder without the stronger winds.
A noticeable warmup is on the way for Tuesday, as temperatures rebound into the lower 40s across the Parkland.
With the extreme cold in place, residents are encouraged to take steps to stay safe and warm. Dress in layers and limit time outdoors, especially during the coldest parts of the day. Make sure hats, gloves, and scarves are worn to protect exposed skin, and bring pets indoors or ensure they have adequate shelter. It’s also important to check on elderly neighbors and ensure heating systems are working properly.
Looking ahead, forecasters are monitoring the next potential weather system expected to move into the Parkland next weekend. There is a chance this system could bring some wintry precipitation, and residents are advised to stay tuned for updates as the forecast becomes clearer.
