Farmington and Central Raise Thousands for Their Special Olympics Teams

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - A friendly rivalry between Farmington and Central schools helped raise thousands of dollars for a good cause during this year’s “Cover the Cruiser” event, during last Friday's football game.

The Farmington School District reports raising $7,500 for its Special Olympics program, while Central collected $6,111.67 to support its own Special Olympics teams.

The fundraiser invited students, staff, and community members to “cover” police cruisers with stickers to raise money to benefit their respective Special Olympics athletes.

Central Superintendent Dr. Zech Payne says that while the event sparks friendly competition between the schools, it’s all for a meaningful purpose.

Central School District raised $6,111.67 that will go towards Special Olympics.

The money will help cover costs for uniforms, travel, meals, and other expenses as athletes compete in Unified sports such as basketball, bowling, cross country, and track and field. This is the second year in a row that Farmington has won the contest.
