VanHerck Honored, Students and Instructor Recognized at Mineral Area College Board Meeting

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Mineral Area College marked a significant milestone during its board of trustees meeting Thursday, held in the institution’s new centralized location, by honoring decades of service and highlighting recent academic achievements.

A highlight of the meeting was the rededication of the VanHerck Boardroom, named in honor of former trustee Dr. Don VanHerck. VanHerck dedicated 43 years of service to the college, leaving a lasting impact on its growth and development. Family members were in attendance as the college celebrated his legacy and longstanding commitment to Mineral Area College.

In addition to the rededication ceremony, the board recognized Automotive Technology Instructor James Whaley as the latest Champion of Excellence. Whaley was honored for his leadership in guiding the college’s automotive program to Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) accreditation. He has also earned the prestigious ASE World Class Technician distinction, placing him among an elite group in the field.

Student success was also highlighted during the meeting, as members of the college’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter were recognized for their achievements at the state level. Four students have qualified to advance to the FBLA National Leadership Conference, which will take place in June.

College officials say the recognitions reflect the continued dedication of faculty, staff, and students to excellence across campus.
