Community Assistance and Awareness
Farmington Police Chief Chris Bullock encourages residents to contact Central Dispatch at 573-431-3131 if they encounter a person experiencing homelessness who is willing to accept assistance. For emergencies or situations involving immediate distress, call 911.
Chief Bullock also noted that Farmington does not enforce a loitering ordinance, due to constitutional and legal limitations. He encourages residents who wish to help to support local charities that provide direct aid, such as East Missouri Action Agency and the Farmington Food Pantry.
Homelessness has risen nationally by eighteen percent in the past year, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Contributing factors vary and often include job loss, medical conditions, disability, domestic violence, or loss of housing due to fire or unsafe conditions.
For additional information about available shelter services or City Ordinance, contact Farmington City Hall at 573-756-1701.
