Farmington R-7 Hosts Meet the Candidates Night, Highlights Proposition Transfer

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Around 100 people attended the Farmington R-7 School District’s Meet the Candidates event Thursday evening at Long Memorial Hall, where community members heard from those seeking a seat on the school board and learned more about Proposition Transfer.

Seven candidates are running for three open seats on the Farmington Board of Education. Superintendent Dr. Kyle Gibbs said three of the seven candidates are incumbents.

Along with hearing from the candidates, those in attendance also received information from district officials about Proposition Transfer, which will appear on the ballot.

The measure asks voters whether the Board of Education of the Farmington R-7 School District should be authorized to increase the operating tax levy to $3.0500 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation beginning in Tax Year 2026. According to the district, the additional operating revenue would be used for attracting and retaining quality certified teachers and support staff, maintaining facilities, and meeting additional operating expenses.

District officials said the proposal also calls for reducing the debt service levy by $0.3000 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation to offset the estimated increase to the operating levy. If approved, the district’s total tax levy would remain unchanged.
