Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - The Farmington Tourism and Convention Bureau is joining a nationwide celebration this week, recognizing the impact of travel and tourism on the local and national economy.
Also known as Discover Farmington, the organization is participating in National Travel and Tourism Week, running May 3 - 9, 2026. The annual event highlights the importance of tourism across the United States and its role in supporting jobs, businesses, and communities.
According to the U.S. Travel Association, the travel industry generates $3 trillion in economic output and supports 15 million jobs nationwide. This year’s theme, “Postmarked: Essential,” emphasizes tourism’s critical role in strengthening local economies and culture.
Tourism officials say the celebration comes at a key time, as the U.S. prepares for major upcoming events, including the FIFA World Cup and the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, both expected to draw millions of visitors.
Locally, tourism continues to play a vital role in Farmington’s growth. Tourism Director Kristen White says area hotels, restaurants, and attractions work year-round to provide memorable experiences that keep visitors coming back.
During the week, Discover Farmington is promoting the city’s scenic trails, entertainment, and events calendar, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore what the Parkland region has to offer.
Visitors can enjoy hiking and biking opportunities, festivals, live performances, and a variety of dining and lodging options throughout the year.
