Farmington Water Park Closed Tuesday Following Near-Drowning Incident

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - The Farmington Water Park will be closed Tuesday, July 21, following a near-drowning incident that occurred Monday evening at the facility.

According to city officials, shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, July 20, a child was observed unresponsive in the pool and was quickly removed from the water by a lifeguard.

A staff member with the St. Francois County Ambulance District happened to be on site at the time of the incident and immediately began administering CPR. Officials say the child regained responsiveness while still at the Water Park before being transported by helicopter to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital for further medical treatment.

City officials say the decision to close the Water Park on Tuesday will allow staff members time to debrief following the incident.

While the Water Park itself will remain closed, the splash pad will stay open from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday and will be available free of charge.

Officials say no additional information is being released out of respect for the privacy of the child and the child's family. They also asked the public to keep the child, family, and Water Park staff in their thoughts following the incident.
