Former Doolittle Police Officer Arrested on Child Sex Abuse Charges

Phelps Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A former Doolittle police officer has been taken into custody following a months-long investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) reports 41-year-old Carl E. Swanson, of St. James, was arrested on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. According to investigators, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Highway Patrol on April 28, 2025, regarding allegations involving Swanson. DDCC’s Troop I Criminal Investigative Unit conducted the investigation, which resulted in Swanson’s arrest this week.

Swanson was transported to the Phelps County Jail and placed on an investigative hold. The Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney has formally charged him with First-Degree Child Molestation, Second-Degree Statutory Rape, and Second-Degree Statutory Sodomy.

He is currently being held in the Phelps County Jail with bond set at $250,000. The investigation is ongoing.
