Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Drivers across the Parkland are seeing higher prices at the pump as gasoline costs continue to rise nationwide.
According to recent fuel tracking reports, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is now around $3.67 per gallon. Analysts say the increase has come quickly in recent weeks as global oil markets react to tensions in the Middle East and concerns about shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Missouri drivers are still paying slightly less than the national average, but prices have also jumped in the Show-Me State. The statewide average is hovering around $3.19 per gallon after climbing more than 30 cents in about a week.
Locally, drivers in St. Francois County are seeing prices that are even higher at some stations. Gas prices across the Parkland reached about $3.39 per gallon in Desloge.
Industry analysts say international developments are playing a major role in the increases. Iranian threats to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, have created uncertainty in global energy markets and pushed oil prices higher.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the United States is monitoring the situation closely and that the country has been “dealing with it and don’t need to worry about it.”
Even so, experts warn that drivers could see more increases in the weeks ahead. Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says gasoline prices could still rise as markets react to the global situation.
