Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - The National Weather Service is continuing a Heat Advisory through Thursday evening as dangerously high temperatures persist across the region. Heat index values are expected to rise between 100 and 105 degrees today, posing a risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable individuals and those without access to air conditioning.
Even after sunset, relief will be minimal, with overnight heat index values remaining above 75 degrees. The prolonged duration of the heat is a growing concern for the elderly, young children, those with chronic health conditions, and people who are unhoused. Outdoor workers and individuals spending extended time outside are urged to take precautions, including taking frequent breaks in shaded areas and drinking plenty of water.
Looking ahead, Friday through Sunday are expected to be slightly cooler, with increased cloud cover and rain chances helping to limit heat index values to the upper 90s or near 100. However, if cloud cover is less extensive than forecasted, temperatures could still climb above 100 degrees in some areas.
Officials are reminding residents to stay hydrated, check on neighbors who may be at risk, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
