Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Construction continues on the Highway 8 bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad in Washington County near Potosi as crews remain focused on the second half of the project.
Nearly a month after traffic was shifted and work began on the opposite side of the bridge, crews are still making progress on that portion of the structure. Drivers traveling through the area should expect temporary traffic signals to remain in place until the work is complete.
The bridge improvement project was originally expected to be finished in September 2025, but multiple delays have extended the construction timeline.
According to the current project schedule, the contractor plans to complete the second half of the bridge, remove the temporary traffic signals, and reopen the roadway to full two-way traffic by the end of May 2026.
Motorists are encouraged to continue using caution while traveling through the work zone and to allow extra travel time as construction wraps up.
