Highway Patrol Urges Safety After Crashes in I-55 Construction Zone

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Construction zones are popping up across the area, and two recent accidents highlight just how dangerous they can be.

Both crashes happened in the same location on Interstate 55, just south of the Highway 67 interchange, only a week apart. One of those wrecks claimed the lives of three people and injured others. The most recent crash sent a child to the hospital by helicopter.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Dallas Thompson says drivers need to remember that safety in work zones is critical.

Thompson adds that protecting construction crews is just as important.

He notes that if a construction worker is struck, the driver could face serious consequences, including heavy fines and even losing their license.
