Icy Roads Lead to Multi-Vehicle Crash in Madison County Saturday Evening

Madison Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Icy road conditions led to a multi-vehicle accident Saturday evening in Madison County.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. along Highway 67 between Cherokee Pass and Greenville, west of Marquand. According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a fast-moving system brought a mixture of sleet and hail to southern portions of the county. Meteorologists say the combination of very steep low-level lapse rates and a low freezing level contributed to the sudden icy conditions.

Madison County 911 dispatchers reported receiving numerous calls as the weather system moved through the area.
