Ste. Genevieve Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is beginning an intersection improvement project at the U.S. Route 61 and Route Y intersection in Bloomsdale that is designed to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists and pedestrians.
The project will upgrade the existing intersection by widening portions of the roadway and increasing turning radiuses to make turning movements easier and more efficient. Crews will also complete drainage improvements and construct a new pedestrian crossing along U.S. Route 61.
Construction is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 30, and continue through Monday, Sept. 21, weather permitting.
The work will be completed in two phases. During the first phase of construction, motorists may continue using Route Y to access northbound U.S. Route 61. During the second phase, the intersection will be closed, and a signed detour route will be in place to guide traffic around the work zone.
MoDOT says the work zone will be clearly marked with signs and is reminding drivers to use extra caution when traveling through the area, reduce speeds, and remain alert for construction workers and changing traffic patterns.
