Iron County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Public’s Help in Copper Theft Investigation

Iron Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says several thefts involving internet and utility lines have resulted in significant service disruptions across the county.

According to the sheriff’s office, suspects have been cutting internet lines from power line poles and stripping copper wire from the lines. The thefts have caused severe internet and cellular service outages, affecting both residents and businesses throughout Iron County.

Sheriff’s officials are asking residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity around power line poles, internet lines or other utility infrastructure.

What to Report

Anyone who observes suspicious activity is asked to contact Iron County Dispatch at 573-546-4000.

Officials say callers should provide as much information as possible, including:

  • Description of the vehicle
  • Make, model and color of the vehicle
  • License plate number, if visible
  • Location of the suspicious activity
  • Direction of travel
  • Description of any suspicious individuals
  • Any other information that could assist investigators

The sheriff’s office is also asking anyone who may have information about the thefts or the people responsible to contact the office directly.

Officials say information from the public could help investigators identify those responsible, prevent additional service outages and reduce further property damage.
