Jefferson County Sheriff’s K9 Maro Passes Away After Nine Years of Service

Jefferson Co, Mo. (KFMO) - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of K9 Maro, who passed away at home Monday night with his family due to what is believed to be a medical issue.

Maro faithfully served the department and the people of Jefferson County for nine years, beginning in 2016. During his career, he assisted in apprehending suspects, tracking missing persons, locating narcotics, protecting his handler, Deputy Scott Burkard, and engaging the community through countless demonstrations. Known for his professionalism on duty, Maro was equally remembered for his playful and gentle nature off the job.

The Sheriff’s Office said he loved children and was always ready to soak up affection.
