Leadwood, Mo. (KFMO) - A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for residents on three streets in Leadwood after a water main break on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
The advisory applies to all residents on Hickory Street, Locust Street, and Ninth Street who are served by the Leadwood City water system. City officials say the order was issued as a precaution while crews work to repair the break, and there is currently no timeline for when the work will be completed.
Residents in the affected area are being urged to take several precautions until the advisory is lifted.
Officials say water should be boiled vigorously for three minutes before it is used for drinking, brushing teeth, preparing food, or diluting juices. Residents should also throw away any existing ice cubes and avoid using ice from automatic household ice makers until the advisory ends.
In addition, dishes and other food-contact surfaces should be disinfected by immersing them for at least one minute in clean tap water mixed with one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
Officials remind residents to allow boiled water to cool before drinking or handling it.
Once repairs are complete, special water samples will be collected and tested. The advisory will remain in effect until those samples are returned and confirm the water is safe. Residents affected by the advisory will be notified when it has been lifted.
